Pacific Crest Trail - Day 125 - Forest Fire 🔥?

The trail takes a wide swoop around Mount Shasta - we’ll see it from nearly every angle but due West.

These fallen snags are common on the trail in Northern California. Sometimes there are trails around them, sometimes it’s a choose your own adventure.

Big views of big clouds!

The trail was on a surprisingly steep and rocky ridge.

We found ourselves under the circumference of a circling fire plane heading down a canyon towards our intended camping spot for the day.

It was honestly pretty scary not knowing what they were looking at.

They eventually peeled off and never came back as we pressed on down the canyon which had a road, campground, and the McCloud river. We heard from another hiker down the canyon the next morning that they had staged engines and a crew near his campground - apparently checking out a hot spot, or perhaps training for a potential rapid response?

A thankfully smoke-free view down the canyon. Scariest moment yet.
