Pacific Crest Trail - Day 167 - Mt. Adams Wilderness

Start: Mile 2232.0 - Trout Lake
End: Mile 2247.6 - Backcountry campsite

We took advantage of the kitchen of our AirBnb in Trout Lake to cook a pound of bacon and make a half dozen of the breakfast sandwiches of our dreams.

The Pioneer Woman knife collection (imagined on indigenous land, manufactured in China) brought to you by Target.

I’m not sure I need much more than this little brick place. Throw a couple of chairs on the roof and you’re really cooking with gas.

This tree had a wicked lightning tattoo.

Fresh wild huckleberries almost make you forget you’re walking through a burn scar. Certainty better than scrub brush that makes your legs bleed.

Jupiter? That‘s definitely a Great Red Spot.

Water beads up on lupine leaves. I suppose they’re saving it for later.

Little? Orange Riding Hood.
Kristin‘s orange cape isn’t going to win and fashion awards but it’s super effective at keeping her and the contents of her pack dry.

We thought this marmot was in deep distress :/. He was screaming into the rain from the top of a rock formation.

Minutes after walking past the marmot in distress, lightning struck a few hundred meters in front of us. Good thing this horseshoe was aligned to collect luck or this post may have never happened.
It’s incredibly scary to experience thunder and lightning at the same time. ⛈️

Lightning started a fire along this section of trail weeks earlier but the trail had thankfully been cleared and risky trees nearby had been felled. It’s so wonderful when the trail is actively maintained post-fire.

We turned a corner and saw this unbelievable view of Mt. Adams. You can feel the power of the mountain and we were thankful to get a glimpse of the incredible glacier pouring off it‘s summit.
Unreal.

Mt. St. Helens is out there somewhere.

Glaciers are incredible. I’m still in awe.

Camping under Mt. Adams with views of Mt. Rainier in the distance is a night I’ll never forget. An absolute highlight in an adventure full of incredible views.
