Pacific Crest Trail - Day 185 - Glacier Pass and Harts Pass
Start: Mile 2612.6
End: Mile 2638.7 - Holman Pass

How does this even happen? Just a casual polished nearly perfect tetrahedron (minus a vértice). I had a notion to pack it out as an artifact for my nascent pyramid rock based religion, but it wasn’t exactly ultralight, and I the consequences of violating leave no trace principles haven’t been divinely prescribed just yet, so I thought better of it.

The colors through northern Washington evoked Gandalf saying “A wizard is never late, Frodo Baggins. Nor is he early; he arrives precisely when he means to.” Six months of trekking through the wilderness lends itself to an acceptance of things as they come, and will come. Almost to a moment, we’ve felt like we arrived wherever we were, precisely on time.

Getting drenched. Don’t care.

The light green larches against the deep reds of late season berry bushes is a stunning combination. You’ll often see a similar but exaggerated combination of neon green + deep red on the back of emergency vehicles - there’s something about the juxtaposition of these colors that grabs your attention.

Adventures of 🫐 and 🥕

Wow.

Larches are so cool.

Perfect camouflage.

We met a couple of Southbound backpackers near Rainy Pass who started at Hart‘s Pass and mentioned that a trail angel had set up a big tent there with charging, snacks, and even a couch. When we arrived at Hart’s Pass we found nothing but a couple picnic tables and an empty parking lot. Bummer but c’est la vie.

An older couple had a group of mountain goats carrying their backpacking gear. Brilliant!

These leaf spouts are the best water fountains ever.
Overall, just an absolutely beautiful day spent hiking through the rain.
