Pacific Crest Trail - Day 42

Start: Mile 383.9 - Little Jimmy Campground
End: Mile 404.3 - Backcountry camp

Well maintained walk-in campgrounds are the best thing ever.

This little Honda Fit apparently attempting a world record at whipping shitties.

This parking lot was the easternmost accessible point of Highway 2 which was closed from there due to the Bridge Fire outside of Wrightwood.

We’d get intimately familiar with Highway 2 over the course of the day - it’s basically a playground for Los Angelenos to rip German and Italian sports cars up a mountain road.

This climb towards Mt. Williamson was steep with a hint of a trail. Not a welcome sight after Baden-Powell yesterday!

But the views were spectacular.

A few miles of trail were closed, necessitating a highway walk down Highway 2 dodging motorcycles and sports cars.

🤔

Don’t tell me what to do.

This sign is a pretty good representation of the Pacific Crest Trail through this section. Burn areas, road walks, car noise, poisonous scrub bushes.

Poodle dog bush. It smells like weed - I wonder if anyone has ever mounted a successful criminal marijuana defense based on this fact.

400! That’s a pretty long way! We’re still 160+ miles from where Cheryl Strayed started her hike on the PCT.

Shitty whipping as abstract line art.

These yucca plants looked straight out of Where the Wild Things Are.

A crown seemed appropriate.

This pigeon was watching over us like a (pigeon?) hawk.
