Pacific Crest Trail - Day 80 - Pinchot Pass

Start: Mile 802.7 - Backcountry campsite
End: 815.0 - Backcountry campsite
Pinchot Pass is named after Gifford Pinchot who was the first director of the National Forest Service under Theodore Roosevelt and who became essentially the godfather of American sustainability with his ethos of using natural resources like forests and water to achieve “the greatest good of the greatest number in the long run”.
He was basically a hero whose contributions are still paying off and whose ethos remains a guiding light for conservation and preservation efforts.
Currently, Congress is working to auction off huge swaths of public land and forests to private companies. America is failing at the hands of the oldest congressional representation in it’s history. I realize I rail against baby boomers constantly, but a single generation holding the Presidency since 1992, and deteriorating human beings using inertia, demographic over-representation, and an out-dated two party system to hold congressional office well past their functional shelf life to introduce policy to sell off our natural resources is both appalling and unsurprising as the culmination of the me generation.
Your favorite ski resort, campground, out of the way spot in the corner of the state, and lands in the photos below are included in the lands being auctioned off.
Digging out of the hole our “leadership”continues to dig is going to suck for generations from now. Gifford Pinchot and Theodore Roosevelt are rolling in their graves.
