Pacific Crest Trail - Day 80 - Pinchot Pass

Start: Mile 802.7 - Backcountry campsite
End: 815.0 - Backcountry campsite

Pinchot Pass is named after Gifford Pinchot who was the first director of the National Forest Service under Theodore Roosevelt and who became essentially the godfather of American sustainability with his ethos of using natural resources like forests and water to achieve “the greatest good of the greatest number in the long run”.

He was basically a hero whose contributions are still paying off and whose ethos remains a guiding light for conservation and preservation efforts.

Currently, Congress is working to auction off huge swaths of public land and forests to private companies. Your favorite ski resort, campground, out of the way spot in the corner of the state, and lands in the photos below are included in the lands being auctioned off.
