Pacific Crest Trail - Day 92 - Donahue Pass

Pacific Crest Trail - Day 92 - Donahue Pass

Start: Mile 928.1 - Backcountry campsite
End: Mile 943.7 - Near Tenaya Lake in Yosemite

Hokusai-esque waves hanging from the sky.

Sometimes the trail is a little bumpy.

Hot trail summer 2025.

Our welcome to Yosemite. Somehow the least spectacular view coming over a pass yet. It will no doubt get more beautiful from here.

Waterfalls everywhere. We’ve gone over enough passes and along enough ridges to understand that there are massive mountains with huge snow fields hiding just out of sight above.

Perfection is difficult to capture but this forest is about as close to perfect as I can imagine.

The Tuolumne Meadows Campground was closed for massive septic system repairs which left us with a 14 mile stretch in Yosemite without a place to sleep.

Connor at the Tuolumne Meadows Campground issued us wilderness permits for an overnight hike from Tenaya Lake up and over Clouds Rest into Yosemite Valley - exactly what I had in mind when we walked in. He told us he had three available and had been trying to convince people to take them all day. The trail provides!

We hitched to Tenaya Lake from Tuolumne Meadows with a couple of older guys who had spent the week bombing around the Yosemite high country day hiking. Really cool guys. It‘s always so refreshing to meet the kind of people who say “fuck it, let’s pick up these hikers”.
